Filmmakers for Conservation
"Using The Power Of Film And Media To Conserve Our Natural World"

FFC - Already Making A Difference

The mission of Filmmakers for Conservation is to promote global conservation through the making, broadcasting and distribution of films, and to help conservation organisations and filmmakers worldwide produce a greater number of better-informed and more effective conservation films. It is often said that conservation films don't make a difference - Filmmakers for Conservation dispels that myth.

The Great Apes Film Initiative uses the power of film and media to engage all those who can make a difference to endangered great apes. This involves getting films to Presidents, Ministers in government, national television audiences and many local communities, schools, universities, wildlife management centres, ...even Karaoke bars  across Africa and SE Asia.

Since its inception six years ago GAFI has screened films to approximately 300 million people in 14 great ape range states and carries out monitoring programmes to check how effective its screening projects are being. GAFI gets its screenings out via 4x4 vehicles and river boats which hasnt been very cost effective or environmentally friendly - however we are now embarking upon the worlds first conservation pedal powered cinema systems screenings where we use a bicycle to travel from one village to another and screen the films usisng pure person power on the bike.

Marine Conservation Society (MCS), the UK charity that cares for our seas, shores and wildlife

MCS is the voice for everyone who loves the sea. We work to secure a future for our living seas, and to save our threatened sea life before it is lost forever. Our wonderful seas, shores and wildlife are under threat. Almost nowhere in UK seas is marine wildlife safe from harm. We need to establish vital marine protected areas where wildlife can recover and flourish. Levels of beach litter have doubled over the last decade.

MCS works to clear our seas of the rising tide of rubbish that is so dangerous to sea life, including seabirds, whales and dolphins. 88% of Europe’s fish stocks are overfished or depleted. Once common fish such as skate and cod are now rare.

MCS works to reduce the overfishing which is devastating the life in our seas, and promotes sustainable seafood alternatives. Our work ensures that the sea’s rich wildlife can be restored, fish stocks grow more plentiful, and our beaches and seawater become cleaner.
